Katy Hidalgo

(she/they)

Pregnancy and birth have always felt like magic to me. As a child, I watched my family experience pregnancy in all its forms - the joy and anticipation, but also the grief of loss and the struggles with fertility - and those early memories left a lasting imprint. I grew up endlessly curious about how families are formed and how bodies bring new life into the world, but it wasn’t until I had my first child that I understood how completely transformative and vulnerable the experience can be. Seeing firsthand how compassionate, knowledgeable support can help shape a birth changed everything for me and set me on the path to becoming a doula.

Today, as a birth and postpartum doula, I bring that understanding to every family I serve. My background in social work grounds me in compassionate, nonjudgmental support, and I meet each birth with calm steadiness, practical comfort measures, evidence-based guidance, and a touch of good humor and magic when it’s most needed. Whether a labor unfolds quietly or takes unexpected turns, I aim to be a reassuring presence and an advocate for informed, empowered choices.

I am deeply committed to reproductive rights and to racial and gender equity, both within and beyond the birthing space, and I weave these values into every part of my work and advocacy. I’m passionate about making birth spaces inclusive and affirming for all families, and I believe birth is both an ordinary miracle and a profound rite of passage - an experience every parent deserves to navigate with autonomy, confidence, and care.

About Katy

• My partner and I are parents of two human babies, Charlie and Penny, and one cat baby, Margaux. We love goofing around, soaking in hot springs, and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

• I spent my youth in the California Bay Area, riding the BART train to punk shows and working busy brunch shifts at a vegetarian diner.

• I am and will always be a theatre kid at heart.

• I also make time to work with Medicaid/OHP clients and offer sliding scale services to many underserved communities.

Choosing to work with Katy was one of the best decisions that I made in preparing for birth. Katy helped my birth partners and I develop a birth plan that honored my labor and delivery wishes. Her advocacy during labor to ensure my birth plan was respected allowed my birth partners to be present with me. She did a great deal of the communication to medical staff during labor. She facilitated creating a safe, welcoming ambiance in the birth hospital room. Her knowledge about labor helped me feel confident in my labor and delivery. Additionally, Katy and my new family had several postpartum visits that offered me a great deal of support. I feel so lucky that she was there every step of the way. Katy is an amazing human and birth worker!
