Chinelo Nkwonta

(she/Her)

My name is Chinelo Nkwonta and I am a Traditional Health Worker (THW) birth and postpartum doula devoted to creating safe, affirming, and empowering experiences for expectant and new parents in Portland. I especially appreciate supporting Black and BIPOC families. I believe birth is both a vulnerable and powerful major life transition—one that deserves passionate, knowledgeable, and loving care. I bring the feeling of having a trusted family member by your side—someone who supports without judgment or unwanted advice.

As both a birth and postpartum doula, I provide continuous support throughout pregnancy, labor, and recovery. In my postpartum practice, I offer flexible daytime and overnight care, supported by my expertise as a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) to help families reach their feeding goals. My background as a certified Early Childhood Parent Educator further strengthens my ability to guide parents with practical tools and insight as they adjust to life with a newborn.

My approach is enriched by lived experience, including high-risk pregnancies, substance use disorder, domestic violence, and diverse economic and cultural realities. As the only Nigerian doula in the region and a proud parent of four, I bring cultural pride, empathy, and the wisdom of motherhood into every interaction. Families working with me receive holistic, compassionate, and culturally responsive care.

Chinelo is a truly extraordinary postpartum doula — knowledgeable, caring, and incredibly consistent in her support. From the moment she stepped into our home, she brought with her a sense of calm and reassurance that made all the difference in those tender early days.

She has a deep well of expertise and shares it in a way that’s thoughtful, empowering, and never overwhelming. Her gentle guidance and steady presence helped us build confidence as new parents. She supported us with everything from soothing techniques and feeding guidance to household rhythms, always with a quiet competence that made us feel safe and held.

And beyond all of that — she is SO funny. Her warmth and humor made us laugh when we needed it most, and her presence brought real brightness to our home. Chinelo is a radiant soul, and we feel totally blessed to have had her by our side.
